The Kudelka Shop is a frankly adorable studio/art gallery in Salamanca Place in Hobart, Tasmania. It is part of the Salamanca Arts Centre and is accessible from Wooby’s Lane, in the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard. Opening hours are 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm Saturday.

We’re a participating business in the Tasmanian Government COLLECT Art Purchase Scheme which offers Australian residents 12 month interest-free loans to purchase artworks by contemporary Tasmanian artists (us!)

We’re Margaret and Jon Kudelka and we run the shop. We also work creating art inside the shop so feel free to come in and say hello.

Jon is a cartoonist. He has won two Walkley awards and been the Museum Of Australian Democracy’s Cartoonist of the Year twice.

He began drawing cartoons at The Hobart Mercury in 1993 after completing a biochemistry degree. He has since drawn cartoons for Australian newspapers including The Australian and The Daily Telegraph. He is currently editorial cartoonist for The Saturday Paper and The Hobart Mercury (still!) His artwork includes watercolour, pyrography and painting. He has written a number of books as well.

Margaret spent her formative childhood in Algeria, North Africa, where it was common to find Roman Ruins; relics of the Roman Empire’s conquest of the North African coast. Margaret was influenced by these memories in her decision to study the art of mosaic. She trained at the Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy.

Please note, the map currently has our old address in Kelly’s Lane. We’re now in the courtyard off Woobys Lane which is the next lane over.
